To the Archangel Gabriel, Before the Blessed Sacrament

To the Archangel Gabriel,
Before the Blessed Sacrament

St. Gabriel,
echo of God's mind,
haunter of dreams,
trumpet of destinies,
bard of the Morning!

Behold, in this place
the Dawn you declared
has come:
tiny Daystar,
Eye of Heaven,
blazing white,
daunting the darkness.
The Virgin you hailed
has given a Son
and the Son
has given his Flesh.

St. Gabriel,
faithful herald,
come sing with me
of promises kept,
of prophecies fulfilled.

St. Gabriel,
winged wisdom,
come speak to me
of wonders wrought,
of God's own Word
abiding.
