To St. Joseph, Before the Blessed Sacrament
St. Joseph, as I kneel here in wonder,
I need a measure of your faith
to deny the deceit of appearances,
to embrace the humility of God.
How else could I believe,
as you had to believe,
that Omnipotence would make Himself frail,
Infinity would make Himself small,
Eternity would bow Himself gladly
to the whims of time?
With mortal eyes like yours
I gaze on Immortality Himself,
the I AM, the Ancient of Days;
and though the sight should slay me,
I live to tell the miracle of grace.
St. Joseph, patron of all who adore a hidden God,
pray for me.
